Individualized ABA Therapy

Depending on your child’s needs, therapy may take place in the community, school or at home. Therapy will involve the child, family and the family’s support team!

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis is the application of techniques based on scientific principles of behavior to improve socially important behaviors and decrease problematic behaviors to a meaningful degree (Cooper, Heron, Howard 1987). Procedures applied in ABA are typically reinforcement oriented, to increase adaptive functional replacement behavior using identified preferred items (i.e. activities, toys, special privileges, snacks, etc.).

What should I expect?

When you first contact ABA Interventions, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) will schedule an appointment to conduct an initial assessment. During the initial assessment, you will be asked to discuss in detail about your child’s behaviors, skills, communication methods, and treatment/medical history. Assessments may also include a Functional Behavior Assessment, ABLLS-R, VB-MAPP, or PEAK.

After assessments and observations are completed, a BCBA will write individualized program goals and a treatment plan for your child and family. Then, therapy can begin! Program goals are recorded and graphed throughout ABA therapy.

Therapy sessions can range from 1.5-3 hours per session, meeting two or more times per week. Sessions typically target skill acquisition and academic skills, daily living skills, functional engagement (play and leisure skills), social skills, communication/verbal behavior, and classroom readiness skills.

Where does therapy take place?

Everywhere! Sessions are available mostly in clinic, but can also occur in home to ensure that skills are generalizing and parents are meeting parent training goals. ABA should be implemented in several environments to promote generalization and it will benefit your child to have therapy in different settings. Sessions can also occur in the community. Many children have challenges at the grocery store, movie theater, dentist, and other community settings. ABA Interventions encourages community outings to work on skill and behavior goals. We are also able to work with your child’s school to provide therapy during school hours or in the classroom. Click the images below to view our rooms / space.
